Karl and Frank Prosenik's Supreme Caravans continue
to develop its own particular niche with an interesting mix of
conventional and offroad caravans.
The market sector Supreme has nurtured has links
with the recreational fishing and offroad community, and the Company's
approach has worked well for an enterprise that had very modest
beginnings, with the development of what have become affectionately
known as "fishing tubs".
As is the case with most of the players in today's
caravan industry, Supreme is enjoying these buoyant times with
filled order books and a lot of interest being directed to the
product.
In an innovative move, the Prosenik brothers have
entered into agreement with Ken Mathieson's boutique Colt factory
to market, under the Supreme brand, the Sunseeker Glide-On, a
slide on for traytops and utilities.
The slide-on has been enjoying a renaissance in
recent times. This has been due to the number of new utilities
and tray tops being acquired by tradespeople and those in the
rural sector. There has been a number of fresh entrants into the
area of RV and interest in the concept continues to mount.
Frank and Karl Prosenik, in their agreement with
Colt to produce the Sunseeker, have identified a fruitful reservoir
of slide-on buyers for the Glide-On.
Karl told Caravan World, "The most popular of the
Sunseeker range is the one used on tray tops and we seem to have
tapped into the trades and rural segment who find the concept
ideal for their purposes.
"A lot of our buyers are fishing enthusiasts who
like to tow a boat. The mix and match provided by the capacity
of the traytop Toyotas, Nissans, Holden Rodeos, Fords and the
like to both tow a boat and carry a slide-on is ideal for their
purposes.
"There has been a lot of interest in the utility
variant of the Supreme Sunseeker Glide-On because of its comfortable
490 kg weight, but it's the traytop unit that's attracting the
lion's share of interest," he said.
At 520 kg the traytop version of the Sunseeker
Glide-On provides considerably more storage space than its partner,
in which space is limited by its conforming to a ute body.
Both slide-ons use CarVan legs for landing and
storage, a simple and effective means of allowing the units to
be elevated enough for the ute or tray truck to be backed underneath.
Both variants are pop-tops and when extended they
provide plenty of headroom. In the headroom department the rear
entrances are excellent. Many rear entrances as installed in small
vans and slide-ons can be real skull crackers but with the Supreme
Sunseeker, entrance for the average sized "Collingwood six-footer"
is as easy as pie.
Karl Prosenik said, "The Sunseeker is the perfect
solution for those overnight escapes or long weekends for the
traytop or ute owner who wants to get away with the minimum of
fuss."
To attempt the Big One in a slide-on would be a
bit of an ask, but the Sunseeker is by no means cramped. There's
well thought out floor space and the cafe type dinette has a very
convenient swivel table.
The Supreme Sunseeker is very good on space. While
the unit for the ute has some storage penalties over that of the
slide-on for the tray, there is nonetheless generous cupboard
and hanging space.
The kitchen area is very well planned in both models
and features the Dometic Spin-Flo two burner cooktop and grill,
plus a handy sized sink and drainboard. A Dometic RM2330 threeway
fridge takes care of perishables storage and the easily accessed
double bed is "upstairs" in the front, with a handy little hopper
window for light and ventilation.
Two people can maneouvre within the cabin space without getting
tangled, and there's plenty of space in the dinette for one to
sit and watch TV while the other cooks.
The Sunseeker is well served with security doors, large windows,
a 60 litre water tank, 240/12 volt electrics and a gas bottle
locker behind a tidy external door.
Although not lavish in the style department, the cabinetry in
the Supreme Sunseeker is precise in fit and finish, with well
upholstered seats of subdued colours. The seats are well shaped
with good thigh support, something not always seen even in full
sized caravans.
Not only for the tradeys or farmers, but for any
owners of utes or traytop utilities, the Supreme Sunseeker Glide-On
is excellent value in the recreational market. The ute version
comes in (including GST) at $15,990 with the traytop variant at
$17250 - Top stuff!
